Brief description of the work and the author's profile: The poignant effigy of the Virgin of Sorrows is carried in procession surrounded by 110 candles placed in a double row around the base, taking up the tradition of the Spanish Dolorose. The image is attributable to the type of dressed mannequin. The face, framed by a flowing wig, appears stiff with pain: the wide-open eyes, lost in the void, elude any form of contact with the observer. Human closeness is regained by the prayerful attitude of the hands joined with crossed fingers which brings the divine passion of the Mother back into an earthly dimension.
