Brief description of the work and of the author profile: The seventeenth-century image belongs to the group of the 4 Sorrowful Mysteries which represent the original nucleus of the procession of the Mysteries, organized by the Arciconfraternita starting from 1714. From the face, stripped and sad, and framed by a wreath of thorny brambles, with eyes, half-closed and turned downwards, from the mouth, just open, the drama of pain radiates over the whole body that becomes an ostentation of an anatomy brutally marked by the blows of the flagellum.
